Rules Section

SERE Forsaken uses all White Wolf books and secondary resources described as sanctioned within the Camarilla Global Addenda. SERE Forsaken makes use of the base Camarilla Global Addenda and US National Addendum. Any alterations, additions, or removals from these addenda will be detailed below.

* Character Records

IC Check-in Requirements Players are required to bring two printed copies (neatly handwritten ink is acceptable, but pencil is not) of all Forsaken Venue character sheets with them. One of these will be given to the In Character Check-in Team, and the other is for player use during the event.

Character Sheets are required to have the following:

  • Player name, Camarilla membership number, Storyteller name, email address, and Camarilla membership number on the title section
  • A complete Experience log that includes a creation log, Experience awards, and all required approval numbers required by your affiliate. Approvals must include any approval requirements, as well as relevant comments by approving officers.
  • Detailed listing of all custom mechanics applicable to their character from non-canon sources. If you do not have these mechanics on hand, they will not be accessible to your character.
  • SERE Forsaken Lead Approval numbers for all custom items (items not found in a published White Wolf Forsaken Source book), and all items not native to the Forsaken Genre.
  • Totems: A pack totem is considered attending the event if at least one of member of its pack is attending. A sheet must be provided for the pack totem.

IC Essence, Damage and, Willpower Expenditure Tracking: It is the Player's responsibility to mark off Essence, Damage and, Willpower Expenditures at their time of use upon their character sheets. However, this expenditure will be monitored by STs in various locations, such as Storyteller Resolution rooms (see below). If a Storyteller or Narrator requests that confirmation of such expenditures be completed by the end of a round, and it is not, the following will occur:

  • First warning= no consequence
  • Second warning= no xp for night
  • Third warning = removal from play of character for the duration of the convention, and no xp granted to the character for the convention.

Other consequences may be considered dependant upon Player Actions to the above.

* Approval Restrictions

Pre-Convention Notification Requirement: If you are planning to portray any of the following at SERE Forsaken, Notification must be given to the SERE Forsaken Lead Two Weeks prior to the Convention:

Custom Mechanics and Approvals above High: All custom mechanics and approvals above high must be brought, in duplicate, to Registration at SERE with full approval numbers attached.

Gadgetry: Things that belong in a James Bond/Cyberpunk movie will not be allowed. If the effect is a material or item intended to duplicate existing abilities in game (such as miniature hand-held cameras to spot those using Obfuscate, etc.), it will also not be allowed. Consult the Lead Venue Storyteller to see if the items you have are considered exceptions to this rule. Items that fall under this aspect will be removed from character sheets at check-in if they are not approved before the event.

Essence Storage: If you have any means to store Essence, more power to you. It must be noted on your character sheet and kept tract of like the PC’s personal Essence pool.

NPCs: Non Player Characters on site must be approved with the Lead Storyteller (and must have an SERE Forsaken Lead approval number) in advance of the event. This includes having retainers on site, spirit allies/retainers, and other merit-based NPCs. that must be approved by the Lead Storyteller.

Cross-Venue: All requests for Cross-Venue PC interactions within the Forsaken Venue must be approved by the Venue Lead 2 weeks prior to SERE. If these are not approved prior to the event, they will not be allowed.

  • Storytellers may petition to incorporate their plotlines and/or NPCs into SERE Forsaken. If approval is not obtained, plot effects and items are considered out of play or "switched off" for the duration of SERE Forsaken.

Experience Awards

The standard experience award for SERE Forsaken will be 5 Experience per full session played (soft role-play to be included). The Experience may be divided between characters if more than one character is played during a session. Over cap will be announced by the Forsaken Lead on Sunday.

  • Experience for a good death may be awarded by the Venue Lead Storyteller or Event Storytellers for character deaths occurring during the convention only. Applications for good death after the event must be made through the Event Storyteller, and not through the characters normal approval chain.

Storyteller Empowerment

Mass combat and scenes with over six participants, because of their tendency to escalate quickly into time freezes that will tie up characters, will be carefully monitored. A Storyteller may pull a large scene off the main floor and into the ST Scene Resolution corner. The Storyteller is empowered to determine when and how other characters are allowed to enter such scenes. If any players argue with any of the Storytellers, or otherwise disrupt the flow of the scene, that player can be asked by a Storyteller to hand their character sheet over to the them and leave the game, at which point the PC will be scripted out of game in a manner fully at the discretion of the Lead Storyteller. The Storyteller staff's main priority is to get through the entirety of the game with as little time consuming challenges as possible, and there will be little tolerance for disruption of game flow. Any and all STs or narrators have authority over how the game is run and on-site rules calls. Any arguing or disruption of game will not be tolerated.

Venue Destructive Effects

Actions, effects, and mass destruction effects have the potential to end the In-Character reason for the gathering prematurely. Any effect that could result in the mass exodus of characters from the area, or items that have the potential of doing so, must be approved though the Venue Lead before they are taken.

Player Advisory

The World of Darkness is not a happy place. From time to time, the Lead Storytellers in a venue may use adult themes, vivid descriptions, and contentious social issues to bring the World of Darkness to life. For those familiar with the White Wolf tabletop material, some plot elements or themes could be considered "Black Dog" material. Such themes and issues may include racism, sexism, bigotry, prejudice, sexual assault, and extreme violence. If, at any time, a player feels uncomfortable with a scene, the player should immediately inform the Storyteller running the scene. The Storyteller will either tone down scene so that the player is once again comfortable participating in it, or will excuse the player from the scene and hand the PC to a Narrator or other designated representative to finish out the scene without breaking continuity.

Appeals

Appeals resulting from SERE Forsaken will be accepted via email up to 30 days after the last session of Forsaken by emailing the Lead Venue Storyteller. If the ruling was made by the Lead Venue Storyteller, notification of an appeal will be made to the SERE Lead Storyteller. The appeal, investigation, and resulting actions will also be handled by the SERE Storytelling and Event Team.

ST Notes / Mechanics:
The ST staff would like to make several clarifications.
* Situational modifiers may be assessed (in the form of points or otherwise) by the ST as he or she deems necessary. For example if you have been knocked down and you are trying to hit someone you may be unable to use any defense do to your prone position. STs will be open to debate with regard to rules calls. However once the ST has made it clear that a decision is final discussion on the matter should end until the scene is finished and an ppropriate time for it to continue is found.

* Magical Items (ie Fetishes and Talens):

A PC cannot have more than their Harmony of Talens on their person at any time. A PC cannot have more than Harmony + Primal Urge Fetishes can be active on the same time. Fetish/Talen creation is according to Lore of the Forsaken pages 138-149.

* Essence Mechanics:
Initial Event Personal Essence: Full Pool.
Regaining Essence: Standard Essence hunting methods mentioned within the Forsaken genre material. Once the local locus has been tapped, any further drains will have to be run through a ST/Narrator. Essence can be hunted from spirits, with a small scene. It can also be obtained through the eating of the flesh of humans, wolves and, other Uratha. This will also require a scene.
Essence Bleed: If the PC’s Primal Urge is high enough for Essence bleed, it is the player’s responsible to keep track of the loss, in addition to describe how it looks to those about them.

Intrigue (politics and negotiation): 3
Action (combat and challenges): 5
Mystery (enigmas and investigation): 4
Drama (ceremony and characterization): 3
Darkness (probability of player character death or corruption): 5
